When today was our last day in Luxor. Form here we head to Hurghada where we begin 3 days of well needed relaxation. To get to Hurghada, however, we had 4-hour bus trip through the desert hills of Egypt. Every time we travel to a new location, we are always accompanied by a security agent assigned by the embassy, this was no different. The agent and bus driver would take us to Hurghada and then travel back to Luxor. We had an early morning wakeup call as we departed from the hotel at 7 am to hit the road. On the way to Hurghada, we did stop at a temple. We stopped at Dendera Temple Complex. This is Egypt’s best-preserved temple from ancient times. This temple is dedicated to the goddess Hathor who is the goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure. This massive temple was built when the Greeks ruled Egypt for some time.
They worshipped the goddess in the style of the Egyptians with some of their Greek touches in the symbols. The temple, like all other temples in Egypt, is massive. Unlike other temples though, still has its beautiful colors and carvings. The colors were still very vibrant as you can see all the blues, reds, blacks, whites, and yellows that came from natural dyes. The temple at one point held a market and due to the items, that were cooked and sold in the temple, the ceilings were completely black. The government was able to fully restore the ceilings with the colors and images in tacked. I included a picture of where they kept a part of the ceiling black to show the before state. This temple was before, it was definitely my favorite. With some many rooms that told different stores to the small architectural details that the builders included like small port holes to the back of the temple, everything seem to have a purpose in this temple. On the ceilings of the temple, they images told stories that included how the calendar would work, horoscope for each season, day, and night falls and many more. We were able to climb to the top of the temple where we saw the room dedicated to her son Horus. Though the temple was like a lot that we say throughout this strip, it was a beautiful sight to see.
After spending an hour at this temple, we were off to Hurghada. We were all looking forward to beaches, sand, and pool relaxation. Our resort is all inclusive which comes with breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, unlimited house spirits and soft drinks, and hourly resort activities. There were other amenities that was on the resort that you could pay for like salon services, massages, nail/toe services, an Italian restaurant, and added aquatic activities like diving and kite surfing. For the remaining of the day in Hurghada once we arrived, I did nothing but sleep. I have a feeling that most of my time spent here in Hurghada will consist of sleep and drinking. Can’t believe this is already day 7 and there is only 3 more days to go. This trip has felt both long and short all at once. With only a few days to go…..laters gators….
