Did Someone Order a Doctor?

Day: 5

Temperature High: 102F

Step Count: 1,127

Well, it’s the next day and my foot still hurts tremendously. I have decided that I want to visit the clinic upon my arrival in Luxor. Though I would miss all the 3 temples scheduled to see after we land, my foot and health is more important. Our flight out of Cairo was at 1:45 pm.it was a struggle getting to the airport, but I did it. Though it took them a while to get a wheelchair for me, I eventually got one and was rolled to my gate. The flight itself was only about one hour and 15 minutes long. Upon arrival, since Luxor is a really small airport, we got off on the tarmac. I hung with the other two people that required wheelchair assistance and we got off the back of the plane by a lift, When we landed, our local medical contact for the group was waiting for me. While everyone else went to the temples, I was transported to the medical clinic.

Arriving at the clinic I was a little nervous about how it would look and be in an undeveloped country but once there all my worries went away. I had a nurse with me the entire time, from picking up at the airport, by my side in the clinic, and riding with me to the hotel once completed. His name was Jeremy and Jeremy was extremely nice,

sweet, and kind. Beside Jeremey, the entire staff was amazing and pleasant. The doctor on call examines my foot and determine it may be a small hairline fracture but he ordered x-rays to be sure. As I was waiting for the person to come and take my x-rays, the check all my other vitals. Here is where the story takes an unexpected turn. When the team checked my blood sugar and temperature they were off. My blood sugar was low which I could understand since I did not eat nothing in the morning besides a granola bar. The temperature was the thing that alarmed me and the doctor. I registered at a degree of 38 C which is 100.2 F. Though I felt no sickness, abdominal pain, or nausea, my temperature still ran high. My doctor stated that over the past couple of weeks they have been seeing a rise in temperatures and side effects from it. With this in mind, the doctor order me to receive some fluids and other drug to get my temperature under control. Once I received my fluids, they performed the x-rays and the doctor did indeed see a very small hairline fracture. He placed me in a split, which is a partial case, and told me it would need to stay in it for about 2-3 weeks. He recommended me to get another check up at home after that time frame. I was prescribed some drugs to take for a week for swallow, fever, and pain. The bet part about the visit was that the receptionist was able to get me any food I wanted. She asked me whatever I wanted I could have. I order some fruit and a Greek chicken salad. The entire visit took about three and half hours.

Sitting here typing this blog post, I am contemplating on if I want to go home early or not. Because of my injury, there are a lot of excursions I will not be able to do. Egypt is not the best currently with having disable accessibility at a lot of their excursions and hotels. So I am battling with the idea on if I want to limp around for the next week, showing up to the excursion risking the chance if I can or cant participate. So, I ask for you to send prayers for me as I attempt to tough it our the rest of the trip. That’s all she wrote… Laters Gators 😊
